Title of the Artwork: Washing Feet
Author: Don LAM (CCST Vancouver Master of Theological Studies student)
Jesus, as the Son of God, demonstrated His love for His disciples to the very end by washing their feet. The foot-washing ritual is, in my view, a significant practice of faith. Washing feet symbolizes love. While servants wash clients' feet under their master’s instructions, ordinary people may hesitate due to concerns about hygiene or the unpleasant smell of feet. However, Christians wash another's feet because the person in front of them is also beloved and created by God.
In the painting, the foot on the left has a large wound. This detail stems from an incident I had, where I saw a thin man on the street with a wound on his foot, exposing the flesh. That image left an unforgettable impression on me. During Jesus' ministry, He healed the sick, often through the act of "touching." I combined this act with the gesture of foot washing. Washing feet also conveys compassionate healing.
